Common Problems > Verrucae (Plantar Warts)

Verrucae are benign tumours that can occur any where on the skin, the Human Pappiloma virus is the organism that causes verrucae. They are contracted by contact with a contaminated surface e.g. swimming pool areas, changing rooms etc. some people are more susceptible than others.

Most infections clear without treatment with one to two years. However sometimes they can be painful and in this instance it is worthwhile seeking treatment, at The Foot Clinic we use liquid Nitrogen at -196oC to treat these verrucae, treatment is uncomfortable however this treatment is considered the gold standard in the treatment of warts.
